Yes! Scouts is open to all children, regardless of their gender.
How old does my child need to be to join?
232nd Birmingham provides weekly activities, trips and residentials for young people between 4 and 14 years of age:
How safe will my Child be?
Scouting is an extremely safe activity, all of our volunteer leaders undergo a vetting process on joining including a DBS (Police) check and are required to undergo initial training including Safeguarding, Safety and First Aid. Read more about Safety and Safeguarding in Scouting here.

Where do you meet?
Where do you meet?
We meet on Thursday evenings at The Church Hall, Broad Road, Acocks Green, B27 7XE
What time do you meet?
Squirrels and Beavers meet on a Thursday evening between 5:15pm and 6:30pm
Cubs and Scouts meet together at the same time on a Thursday evening between 6:30pm and 8pm.
Although we all meet together, we utilise different halls and the outdoors to ensure each section has the space it needs for its activities.
Can I turn up on a Thursday night to join?
In the interest of safety and safeguarding we ask that you please get in touch with us first if you wish your child to join us at 232nd Birmingham. This is so we can complete the required joining paperwork prior to your arrival. Non-members won’t be admitted onto the premises until they have completed the joining process.
How much does it cost?
How much does it cost to be a member?
Membership for Squirrels, Beavers, Cubs and Scouts is £16.00 per month payable each month by bank transfer or standing order. We will confirm our banking details upon joining. Membership fees help us to pay for: our regular meeting expenses, equipment maintenance/storage, national and local membership fees to the Scout Association, insurance, payment of rent to the school.
Can I pay per session?
Unfortunately no – we charge a monthly membership fee rather than an attendance fee as the membership fee covers fixed costs including our hall and storage rental, insurance and other overheads.
Are there any other costs?
The membership fee includes membership of the group and weekly sessions on a Thursday night. Other activities and residential camps are charged on a per activity basis – however as a charity we do subsidise some activities so the charge may be lower than the cost price.
Can I park at the venue?
To help us keep everyone safe, we kindly ask that parents do not drive down the venue’s driveway when dropping off or collecting their children. Instead, please escort your child down the driveway from Broad Road and into the building. This is a key part of our commitment to maintaining a safe environment for all our members.
Payments and Financial Help
How do I make payment?
Payments are accepted by electronic bank transfer to our Group bank account – payment details will be made available upon joining.
When is payment due?
Monthly membership fees are due each month once your child joins the Scout Group. We reserve the right to terminate the group membership of any youth member where membership fees remain unpaid for a period of four weeks or more.
Do you offer any help for people struggling with finances?
Yes. If you do need assistance, and cannot pay your subs, please speak to your leader or the Group Scout Leader in confidence as soon as possible to avoid the suspension of your young people’s membership. While we are a charity, we’ll always try to help as much as we can, offering extended payment plans and other financial assistance, if we can, on a case-by-case basis.
Uniform
Does my child have to wear uniform?
Yes, as a uniformed organisation all members must wear uniform to weekly meetings and uniform will need to be worn on arrival and departure from trips and residential activities.
You don’t have to purchase uniform straight away – you can give it a few weeks to make sure your child enjoys Scouting before you go ahead and make the purchase.
